Mounting the vertical trim fin really felt like a milestone. It began to make this contraption look kind of like a helicopter! This is an operation that is best done with more than two hands.

This is another pair of hands attached to my friend Chip Grayson. He's celebrating our success with a stogie.

Chris Hysaw also helped but he didn't bring any cigars. I'm going to have a talk with his mom about that.

The first thing to constructing the vertical trim fin is to fashion wood plugs for the top and bottom of the trim fin. Here you see I measured the angle at the top of the VTF and cut a 2X2 block to match the angles for the top plug. The rest is cutting, gluing, screwing and sanding to get the plug to the desired finish.

I will complete the VTF plug by blending the joint with either fiberglass or Bondo before painting.
