I've spent several hours working on the mount and you can see that the motor mount is still 1/4 inch off center. I finally got it level. The vertical distance to the upper square tube is also correct . It will take more grinding on the pilot side to get the alignment right. This is a detail I wanted to get just right. I kept after it until I got it to spec.
You can see the frame mounted on the landing gear. I'm grinding one of the body mounting pads. Using a hand file as the Rotorway manual suggests is not the right choice on chrome molly steel. I've figured out industrial strength tools will make this project move a lot quicker. Rotorway's claim that this kit can be built with simple hand tools is a stretch. Ya think OSHA would throw the book at me?
I'm reassembling the frame after it was painted. Notice the tail boom mounting tubes are resting on the rungs of a ladder and I'm pushing down on the landing gear with my foot. This is a trick to get the support tube bolt aligned with the frame. It was a welcomed tip from another RW builder. It's good there are no pictures of how I accomplished this task before I learned the trick. It wasn't pretty.
Here's the basic frame completed and painted. Next will come the tail section.
