There are three heat shields that protect the engine compartment from the heat of the exhaust header. Two shield the gas tanks and the other one encompass the four header pipes to shield the rest of the engine compartment

I built the heat shield our of cardboard first to make sure I got all the dimensions correct.

This is the heat shield template supplied by RotorWay stuck to the aluminum sheet used to build the heat shield. The cut outs were made from actual dimensions of the exhaust headers. This is one place it's best Not to follow RotorWay's template. You can see the difference between the template and the actual cut outs.

Cutting out the heat shield took considerable time to do the old Trim & Fit Shuffle to get the exhaust header holes sized right.

Ah, nice fit. Now it comes off one more time to remove the paper pattern and replace the clecos with nut plates and screws.
Ignore that guy behind the heat shield. I am the all powerful OZ!
This picture shows the muffler mounted to the headers. Pretend the radiator isn't there. It comes in the next chapter. The muffler hanging straps had to be manufactured from steel and rubber. No surprises here.
This is a shot of the pilot side heat shield that will protect the gas tank. It was fairly easy to cut out the heat shield and make the mounting bracktets.
